Attention Parents! My email address was recently updated by WCPSS to reflect my new married name, Rebecca Vockley.
You can still email me at [email protected], but the name that will show up with that address is now Rebecca Vockley. (In the interest of keeping things simple, I had planned to continue being "Ms. Gifford" for the rest of the year, and that is still what my students and colleagues are calling me, it is just no longer what shows up when I send emails. Thanks for understanding!)

Important Dates:
Avoid the "Summer Slide!"Summer is almost here, and I know that everyone is excited for a well-earned break! Just because school is out doesn't mean you can't still learn awesome new things and strengthen your brain every day. "Summer slide" is a term used to describe the learning loss that happens to many kids over the summer months each year. Students who do not make a concerted effort to keep skills sharp may lose a great deal of learning each summer, resulting in a large gap in academic achievement by the end of elementary school.
Luckily, you can prevent summer slide and have a great time doing it! Some ideas to keep your brain sharp include reading for at least 20 minutes a day, and finding fun math games to play with your family and friends. The websites we used in class all year (and more) are still available to you if you have access to a computer--just head over to the Helpful Links page if you can't remember how to log in. Several bookstores and libraries also have summer reading programs, and you can earn prizes for reading all summer long. Check out these links for more information about Summer Reading and Summer Slide. |
Announcements:Welcome to second grade! Please take a minute to look around our class website, and let me know if you have any questions.
Scholastic Book Club: The picture above is a link!
You can help our class by ordering books from Scholastic Reading Club! Every book you purchase earns points, which I can use to buy more books for our classroom library. You can choose to order by sending in cash or by purchasing online (preferable). Order books online here: https://clubs.scholastic.com/home On your first visit, you will need to create an account using our class code: NCYZ2 Please email me if you have any questions, or have any trouble ordering! I have placed our last order for the school year as of 5/31/17. I am worried that orders placed next week will not arrive until after the students leave for the summer. You can still buy books at the book fair in the media center, June 5th-7th! |
