Writing in 2nd grade - What should it LOOK like?
These are some of the writing standards we will be working towards all year long. These are posted in our classroom, so every student is familiar with the rubric for scoring written responses to their text level.
Level 3 - Proficient
1.) Response fully answers ALL PARTS of the question and is on-topic
2.) Response uses details from the text (not from your own prior knowledge)
3.) Answer is specific (uses names, places, information from the text)
4.) Answer includes a lot of information
5.) Depending on the question, answer has at least 3 sentences
Level 2 - Almost proficient (still a passing score).
1.) Mostly answers the question, but not all parts of it
2.) Answer has some supporting details, but not enough.
3.) Details/evidence are off-topic, or not from the text
4.) Not specific. Uses "they," "there," "it was," instead of names and places.
Level 1 - Not Proficient (not passing score)
1.) Answer is too short
2.) Response does not answer the whole question
3.) Answer has no supporting details, is very broad or vague (not specific)
4.) Writing is quick or rushed - 1 or 2 sentences
Level 0 - Not Proficient (not a passing score)
1.) Answer is off topic, from your head, and not demonstrating that the reader understood the text
2.) Response does not answer any part of the question
3.) There are no supporting details or no details that relate to the question
4.) Writing is quick or rushed - 1 or 2 sentences
