About our behavior chart:
I use a behavior chart to track student behavior in my class. Each student has a clip, which can be moved UP on the chart for positive behavior, or DOWN for negative or disruptive behavior. All students begin the day on green. Cool colors indicate that your student is going above and beyond the classroom expectations. Warm colors indicate that your student was having a hard time following the classroom expectations.
The behavior chart colors and their corresponding labels are:
Purple: Flying High
Blue: Making Great Choices
Green: Ready to Learn
Yellow: Re-focus
Orange: Teacher's Choice
Red: Parent Contact
Last year, I also used Class Dojo with my class to track their behavior. I typically do not start using Class Dojo until students have learned my expectations and had some time to get used to them. What I like about Class Dojo is that parents are able to see how their students are doing in real-time using a smart phone app. You can learn more about Class Dojo here.
Class Rules:
During our first week of school, we will have a class discussion about the rules that we can all agree to follow as a classroom community. Last year, we worked together to create the following list of rules (this year's list may differ slightly):
1. Be safe
2. Be kind and respectful
3. Follow directions and listen
4. Take care of our classroom
5. Have fun and learn
All students will sign the list of rules, indicating that they understand and agree to follow the rules this year in school.
